  1. Hi Jade! Thanks for sharing your faves! I wondered if you might have any recommendations for acne treatments on the chest and back? I also have a hypothesis about coconut oil, and knowing you had a tough time with it in the past, I thought I would check in with you.

I've always struggled with breakouts on my back and chest, and after a recent facial that included a shoulder rub, I had particularly angry breakouts. (This spa typically uses coconut oil for that sort of thing–I need to check and see if that's indeed what was used). I also wonder if the coconut and other high-oleic acid oils in my shampoo and conditioner might be contributing to body breakouts as well.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any thoughts you might have!

  2. Hey Kate, I hope you don't mind me butting in here! I thought I'd share my thoughts about coconut oil too. Coconut oil is actually pretty comedogenic, I used to get the occasional breakout on my chest/back when I applied my homemade body butter which contains coco oil! Perhaps ask your facialist to use another oil and see if that helps? If there's SLS in your shampoo/conditioner it could be a contributing cause too. Make sure you take another quick rinse after you're done washing your conditioner out!

  3. Please do! πŸ™‚ No SLS in the hair products–have been using Acure Volumizing. Is there another clean brand you recommend? Thanks!

  4. I love the way Rahua Voluminous shampoo/conditioner makes my hair feel so clean and manageable! And smells amazing too. You only use a bit at a go so the bottle lasts forever too. With Rahua I can go without washing my hair for 2-3 days depending on my activities, and that's saying a lot because I live in Singapore and it's very humid (80%)! I've been meaning to get a review up on that soon, so I'll keep ya posted if you're interested? I'm currently rotating between that and EO Volumizing shampoo and Clarifying conditioner, it works great too! I love Acure's price, but I'm not going to lie, it makes my scalp really itchy after 2 days. It'll work great for someone who's a daily washer I suppose.

    Hope this helps Kate. (:

  5. Everything Charmaine has said (she is awesome) +

I luckily do not get very many back spots, but my SO does. I tend to buy him lots of black clay-types of soap (Osmia has some) and he recently enjoyed Java Skincare's soap. In his case, it's probably because of not showering enough after workouts, but I'm inclined to agree with you due to my past poor experience with coconut oil–that may be contributing to it (though for me, coconut oil is no bueno on the face but fine on the body).

I really love the Acure shampoo line–the almond/orange one is my favorite and it's great bang for buck. I agree with Charmaine–Rahua smells amaaaaazing (that palo santo, tho). I've also enjoyed Yarok shampoo which is at a similar price point as Rahua–mega soft hair. I also enjoyed used Broo (their selling point is beer) for some time–also quite soft hair.

    Hope this helps!! xx

  6. Thank you lovely!! I avoided Tata Harper cleansers for so long out of fear of it being too waxy and thick for my acne-prone skin, that fear jumped back in during the early days of using the Purifying Cleanser so I took a hiatus from it for a month while my face settled down. Just started using it again a week ago and the face seems to behaving. I am partial to oil cleansers and cleansers like Halcyon–they feel like there is less of a risk of clogs, but I love the scent and cooling experience of the Purifying Cleanser. Maybe this one won't be too waxy for me–fingers crossed! xx

  7. Please keep me updated! I've been wanting to try Tata Harper products for a long time, but I'm sooo afraid my skin won't react well. I'm just recovering from a really bad hormonal breakout no thanks to Biotin. Doing as little to my skin as possible seems to be helping.

  8. I can't believe I just discovered your videos! I have been going between Tata Harper Purifying cleanser and Yuli Halcyon this summer. I like the smell of Tata Harper's just a little better, it smells like the rest of her line which is very strong and flowery which some people find to be too much but I like. However the results with Halcyon seem to agree more with my skin, it's smoother and feels much more comfortable.

Do you find the Osmia toner to be less drying than Dr. Alkaitis soothing Gel?
